Arsenal chief Edu finally wins Juventus transfer battle at third time of asking

Arsenal transfer chief Edu has finally managed to get the better of Juventus with the Serie A side admitting defeat in their pursuit of Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Italian giants were noted as admirers of the Brazilian defender earlier this summer with them being keen to bolster their defence following another underwhelming season both on the domestic and European front.

Following an impressive couple of seasons in north London, it was thought that Gabriel would be an ideal candidate to step into the role and previous reports suggested that the Gunners would demand a relatively conservative fee of £33.8million (€40m) for the former Lille star.

Despite that, it appears that Juventus will now not be making a move for the Brazilian having decided on an alternative target in the form of Torino’s Gleison Bremer.

Reports have suggested that Juve are ready to splash €47m (£40m) on the 25-year-old and he will become Matthijs de Ligt ’s direct replacement in Turin after the Dutchman himself completed a move to German giants Bayern Munich.

With Leonardo Bonucci, Daniele Rugani and the returning Federico Gatti all already at the club, it appears unlikely that the Old Lady will enter the market for another big-money centre-back, especially with the signing of Bremer.

That decision will see Arsenal finally beat off the advances of Juventus, with the two sides having been competing for signings in the past. The Gunners – as well as their Italian counterparts – were interested in the services of midfielder Manuel Locatelli last summer after a hugely impressive Euros.
